thromboxane-A synthase [EC 5.3.99.5] an enzyme of the isomerase class that catalyzes the conversion in platelets of prostaglandin G2 to thromboxane A2, a potent vasoconstrictor and platelet agonist. Deficient enzyme activity, an autosomal dominant trait, causes defects in the release of platelets. See also illustration at prostaglandin.
