urea in which the oxygen is replaced by sulfur; used as a photographic fixing agent, as an accelerator in vulcanization, and for other purposes. It was formerly used to treat hyperthyroidism but was withdrawn because it is carcinogenic and is a contact allergen. Called also thiocarbamide.
