a syndrome caused by a lesion in the thalamus and characterized by contralateral hemianesthesia; some later develop persistent severe pain and choreoathetoid movements on the affected side, mild hemiataxia, and astereognosis. Called also Dejerine-Roussy s. and thalamic hyperesthetic anesthesia.
