target theory A theory that predicts response curves based on the number of events required to cause the phenomenon. Used to determine whether point mutations are single events.

target theory A model used in radiobiology to describe cell survival from radiation. Each cell has a certain number of critical structures (targets) that must be inactivated for the cell to die. If all are inactivated, the cell will recover.
