statistical analysis that evaluates the timing of events, particularly survival but also by extension other nonrecurrent events occurring in a cohort over time, such as relapse, death, or marriage. It involves following the cohort, plotting the occurrence of events, and calculating their probabilities for each time interval. See also Kaplan-Meier survival curve, under curve.
