[EC 6.2.1.4] an enzyme of the ligase class that catalyzes the cleavage of succinate from succinyl CoA, using the energy so generated to form GTP from GDP. The reaction is part of the tricarboxylic acid cycle (see illustration at cycle). Called also succinyl CoA synthetase.
