| 설명 | 귀는 바깥의 바깥귀, 그리고 음을 전달하는 가운데귀, 전달된 음을 신경이 알아들을 수 있도록 바꿔주는 기능의 속귀, 이 3가지로 구분되어 진다. 가운데귀는 고막에서부터 속귀까지 연결되는 곳까지인데 여기에 3가지의 조그마한 뼈가 있어 고막에 울린 음이 속귀까지 전해지도록 해준다. 이때 이 뼈들과 고막의 작용으로 귀에 들린 음은 약 21배정도의 확대효과가 나타난다. 속귀는 이렇게 해서 전해진 음을 코르티 기관에 의해서 신경이 알아 들을 수 있는 신호 전달체계로 바꾸어 뇌에 전해주는 역할을 한다. |

| 설명 | 귀는 오감의 하나인 청각을 받아들여 소리를 듣고, 회화를 이해하는 중요한 생활정보의 입력 장소이다. 신체의 평형감각을 담당하는 중요한 전정, 반고리관이 있어서 인간이 일상생활을 영위하는 데에 매우 중요한 기능을 하는 곳이다. 어떤 이유로 이들 기능이 떨어지면 난청이나 귀울음, 또는 현기증, 비틀거림 등의 평형장애가 나타나고, 심각한 정보장애가 일어나므로 충분한 주의가 필요하다. 귀는 크게 바깥귀, 가운데귀, 속귀의 3부분으로 나누는데 바깥귀라고 하는 것은 소리를 고막까지 전달하는 외이도부분을 말한다. 그리고 중이란 고막에서 내이 사이의 공간으로 여기에는 고막의 진동을 소리를 느끼는 달팽이(cochlea)까지 전달해 주는 작은 뼈인 3개의 귓속뼈(ossicle)이 있는 곳이다. 속귀란 소리를 직접 느끼는 기관인 달팽이, 평행감각을 담당하는 반고리관, 구형낭(saccule), 타원낭(utricle)이 있는 곳을 말한다. |

| Colorado tick fever | <infectious disease> A rare acute viral infection transmitted via a tick bite (Dermacentor andersoni). Disease is limited to the western United States, particularly Colorado.
