a statistical technique in which the sample size is not fixed in advance, rather, sampling is stopped as soon as significant results are observed. The criteria for stopping the trials at each sample size are set so that the overall probability (for all sample sizes) of falsely rejecting the null hypothesis at any step is held to a preset level.
