(for cancer of cervix): a test for early squamous cell cancer by treating the tissue with a solution of 1 g of iodine and 2 g of potassium iodide in 300 mL of water: if the cervix is healthy, the surface turns brown; if there is cancer, the treated area turns white or yellow, because cancer cells do not contain glycogen and therefore do not stain with iodine.
