| 설명 | 고분자 물질과 같은 비결정 물질을 구성하고 있는 미소결정 입자. 미소결정(crystallite)이라고도 한다. 1858년 스위스의 식물학자 K.W. 네겔리는 녹말과 셀룰로오스 등 식물체가 복굴절을 나타낸다는 사실을 발견하였다. 그는 이들이 현미경으로는 볼 수 없는 아주 미세한 결정입자로 이루어져 있다고 생각하여, 라틴어로 미소하다는 의미를 가진 mica라는 단어를 따서 마이셀이라 명명하였다. 현재는 네겔리가 고안했던 것과 같은 고립된 마이셀의 존재는 부정되고 있으나, 녹말이나 셀룰로오스 등 고분자물질이 만들어내는 고체의 결정성 부분을 마이셀이라고 한다. 이 밖에 비누와 같은 표면활성제 용액 안에서 일정한 농도 이상이 되면 생기는 분자 또는 이온의 집합체도 마이셀이라고 한다. 이때 마이셀의 크기는 콜로이드 입자의 크기와 비슷하며, 이러한 콜로이드를 마이셀콜로이드라고 한다. |

| reversed-field pinch | <radiobiology> A toroidal magnetic confinement scheme which could constitute an alternative to the Tokamak for building a fusion reactor. It is characterised by a magnetic field mostly generated by the plasma itself, with toroidal and poloidal components of comparable intensities, in contrast with the Tokamak where most of the field is toroidal and externally applied. The name of the configuration is given by the fact that the toroidal component of the magnetic field changes sign in the outer region of the plasma.
