unpleasant deep discomfort including paresthesias inside the calves when sitting or lying down, especially just before sleep, producing an irresistible urge to move the legs; the cause is unknown, but in some cases it may be due to inadequate circulation, a reaction to medication, or a complication of uremia. Called also restless legs and Ekbom s.
