the erythematous biochemical reaction ( reactive hyperemia) of the skin in an area that has been stimulated mechanically by friction; the reflex is greater in degree and duration in an area of acute somatic dysfunction; it is a reflection of the segmentally related sympathicotonia commonly observed in the paraspinal area 2. A red glow reflected from the fundus of the eye when a light is cast upon the retina.
