pseudolymphocytic choriomeningitis virus A virus belonging to the family Poxviridae morphologically similar to vaccinia virus, which occurs as a latent infection in laboratory mice, but which may be activated by stresses such as irradiation and transport to cause disease; inoculation into the footpad results in oedema and necrosis.
Synonym: ectromelia virus, mousepox virus, pseudolymphocytic choriomeningitis virus.

lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus The type species of arenavirus, part of the lcm-lassa complex viruses, producing an inapparent infection in house and laboratory mice. In humans, infection with lcmv can be inapparent, or can present with an influenza-like illness, a benign aseptic meningitis, or a severe meningoencephalomyelitis. The virus can also infect monkeys, dogs, field mice, guinea pigs, and hamsters, the latter an epidemiologically important host.

african swine fever virus The lone species of the genus african swine fever-like viruses. The virus causes a fatal disease among domestic pigs in africa and a less virulent infection in europe.
