processus coronoideus A sharp triangular projection from a bone; coronoid process of the mandible, the triangular anterior process of the mandibular ramus, giving attachment to the temporal muscle; coronoid process of the ulna, a bracket-like projection from the anterior portion of the proximal extremity of the ulna; its anterior surface gives attachment to the brachialis, its proximal surface enters into the formation of the trochlear notch.
Synonym: processus coronoideus.

biventer mandibulae <anatomy> One of the suprahyoid group of muscles consisting of two bellies united by a central tendon which is connected to the body of the hyoid bone; origin, by posterior belly from the digastric groove medial to the mastoid process; insertion, by anterior belly into lower border of mandible near midline; action, elevates the hyoid when mandible is fixed; depresses the mandible when hyoid is fixed; nerve supply, posterior belly from facial, anterior belly by nerve to the mylohyoid from the mandibular division of trigeminal, a muscle with two fleshy bellies separated by a fibrous insertion.
Synonym: musculus digastricus, biventer mandibulae, musculus biventer mandibulae, two-bellied muscle.

caput mandibulae The expanded articular portion of the condylar process of the mandible.
Synonym: caput mandibulae.
(05 Mar 2000)
ramus mandibulae The upturned perpendicular extremity of the mandible on either side; it gives attachment on its lateral surface to the masseter muscle.
Synonym: ramus mandibulae.
(05 Mar 2000)
ramus marginalis mandibulae nervi facialis <anatomy, nerve> Branch of facial nerve which parallels the mandibular margin innervating risorius muscle and muscles of lower lip and chin.

(05 Mar 2000)
corpus mandibulae The heavy, U-shaped, horizontal portion of the mandible extending posteriorly to the angle where it is continuous with the ramus; it supports the lower teeth.
Synonym: corpus mandibulae.
(05 Mar 2000)
symphysis mandibulae The fibrocartilaginous union of the two halves of the mandible in the foetus; it becomes an osseous union during the first year.
