| parabasal body |
a cytoplasmic body of varying appearance, structure, and function closely associated with the nucleus, kinetoplast, and basal body in certain parasitic flagellate protozoa; it is usually connected to the basal body by a fibril or thread, which together are known as the parabasal apparatus. More than one such structure may be present in each organism. Some authorities consider the parabasal body to be the Golgi complex of these cells.
