occupational asthma This is asthma caused solely by something where you work. There are over 200 substances currently known and recognised as a cause of occupational asthma. Examples are: isocyanates, latex and some wood dusts. Oral steroid A class of medications generally used to help treat severe asthma attacks. Because these medications travel throughout the bloodstream to the entire body, there is more chance for serious side effects to occur.
