normality (of a solution) concentration expressed in gram equivalents of solute per liter being within certain limits that define the range of normal functioning expectedness as a consequence of being usual or regular or common conformity with the norm

normality The number of equivalents of a substance dissolved in a liter of solution.

normality In simple linear regression, an assumption that the values of both variables are distributed normally. Reference: Chapter 14

normality (N): by definition, one equivalent per liter What is an equivalent? Molecular weight divided by the number of replaceable protons. For example, HCl there is one replaceable proton and therefore normality = molarity In contrast, H 2 SO 4 or H 3 PO 4 have two and three replaceable protons, respectively. In the case of H 2 SO 4 , a 1 N solution would be equal to a 0.5 M solution. The advantage of normality is in titration, 1 equivalent of acid will completely normalize one equivalent of base.
