mononuclear phagocyte s. the collection of cells consisting of macrophages and their precursors (blood monocytes and their precursor cells in bone marrow). The term has been proposed as a replacement for reticuloendothelial system, which does not include all macrophages and does include other unrelated cell types. Called also macrophage s. See also macrophage.
