| Methanosarcina |
a genus of methane-producing bacteria of the family Methanobacteriaceae, made up of large, spherical, strictly anaerobic cells that derive energy by the formation of methane from acetate and sometimes methanol. They are found in mud and sewage. The type species is M. metha´nica.
