| inferior nasal concha | A thin, spongy, bony plate with curved margins, on the lateral wall of the nasal cavity, separating the middle from the inferior meatus; it articulates with the ethmoid, lacrimal, maxilla, and palate bones, the above bony plate and its thick mucoperiosteum containing an extensive cavernous vascular bed for heat exchange. Synonym: concha nasalis inferior, inferior turbinated bone, turbinated body. (05 Mar 2000) |
|---|---|
| middle nasal concha | The middle thin, spongy, bony plate with curved margins, part of the ethmoidal labyrinth, projecting from the lateral wall of the nasal cavity and separating the superior meatus from the middle meatus, the above bony plate and its thick mucoperiosteum containing a cavernous vascular bed for heat exchange. Synonym: concha nasalis media, middle turbinated bone, turbinated body. (05 Mar 2000) |
| superior nasal concha | The upper thin, spongy, bony plate with curved margins, part of the ethmoidal labyrinth, projecting from the lateral wall of the nasal cavity and separating the superior meatus from the sphenoethmoidal recess, the above bony plate and its thick mucoperiosteum, which is less vascular than that of the middle and inferior conchae. Synonym: concha nasalis superior, Morgagni's concha, superior turbinated bone, turbinated body. (05 Mar 2000) |
| supreme nasal concha | A small concha frequently present on the posterosuperior part of the lateral nasal wall; it overlies the supreme nasal meatus. Synonym: concha nasalis suprema, fourth turbinated bone, highest concha, highest turbinated bone, Santorini's concha, concha santorini, supraturbinal, supreme concha, supreme turbinated bone, turbinated body. (05 Mar 2000) |
| maxillary process | A thin plate of irregular form projecting from the middle of the upper border of the inferior concha, articulating with the maxilla bone and partly closing the orifice of the maxillary sinus. Synonym: processus maxillaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| maxillary process of embryo | The part of the first pharyngeal arch that lies cranial to the stomodeum and then develops into the upper jaw. (05 Mar 2000) |
| concha nasalis inferior | A thin, spongy, bony plate with curved margins, on the lateral wall of the nasal cavity, separating the middle from the inferior meatus; it articulates with the ethmoid, lacrimal, maxilla, and palate bones, the above bony plate and its thick mucoperiosteum containing an extensive cavernous vascular bed for heat exchange. Synonym: concha nasalis inferior, inferior turbinated bone, turbinated body. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior maxillary nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A branch of the trigeminal (5th cranial) nerve. The mandibular nerve carries motor fibres to the muscles of mastication and sensory fibres to the teeth and gingivae, the face in the region of the mandible, and parts of the dura. (12 Dec 1998) |
| medial nasal process | An ectodermally covered mesenchymal swelling lying medial to the olfactory placode or pit in the embryo. Synonym: medial nasal fold, medial nasal primordium, medial nasal process. (05 Mar 2000) |
| nasal process | The upward extension from the body of the maxilla, which articulates with the frontal bone. Synonym: nasal process, processus frontalis maxillae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lateral nasal process | An ectodermally covered mesenchymal swelling separating the embryonic olfactory pit from the developing eye. Synonym: lateral nasal fold, lateral nasal primordium, lateral nasal process. (05 Mar 2000) |
| posterior inferior nasal branches of greater palatine nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Branches of greater palatine nerve to posterior inferior lateral wall of nasal cavity, including posterior aspect of mucosa over posterior portion of inferior nasal concha and meatus; may arise independently from pterygopalatine ganglion. Synonym: rami nasales posteriores inferiores nervi palatini majoris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior nasal arteriole of retina | The branch of the central artery of the retina that supplies the lower medial, or nasal, part of the retina. Synonym: arteriola nasalis retinae inferior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior nasal colliculus | The ovoid, paired, inferior eminence of the laminae of mesencephalic tectum; it receives the lateral lemniscus and projects by way of the brachium of inferior colliculus to the medial geniculate body of the thalamus, and is thus an essential way-station in the central auditory pathway. Synonym: colliculus inferior, corpus quadrigeminum posterius, inferior nasal colliculus, posterior quadrigeminal body. (05 Mar 2000) |
| inferior nasal venule of retina | The small vein that passes from the inferior medial (nasal) part of the retina to join the central vein. Synonym: venula nasalis retinae inferior. (05 Mar 2000) |
