retroperitoneal liposarcoma <radiology> Most common primary retroperitoneal tumour, rarely arises from lipoma, 95% of all fatty retroperitoneal tumours, 40-60 years; M>F, most radiosensitive sarcoma (32% 5-year survival) findings, CT, contrast enhancement, mixed density (fat and soft tissue elements), pseudocystic pattern: water density secondary to volume averaging, angio: hypovascular; no vessel dilation, capillary staining, laking sites for liposarcoma: lower extremity 45%, abdominal cavity and retroperitoneum 14%, trunk 14%, upper extremity 8%, head and neck 7%

liposarcoma A malignant tumour derived from primitive or embryonal lipoblastic cells. It may be composed of well-differentiated fat cells or may be dedifferentiated: myxoid (liposarcoma, myxoid), round-celled, or pleomorphic, usually in association with a rich network of capillaries. Recurrences are common and dedifferentiated liposarcomas metastasize to the lungs or serosal surfaces.

myxoid cyst 1. A knot or knotlike mass.
2. <anatomy> A general term for a group of nerve cell bodies located outside the central nervous system, occasionally applied to certain nuclear groups within the brain or spinal cord, for example basal ganglia.
3. <oncology, tumour> A benign cystic tumour occurring on a aponeurosis or tendon, as in the wrist or dorsum of the foot, it consists of a thin fibrous capsule enclosing a clear mucinous fluid.
