a condition caused by excessive ingestion of lead compounds, seen especially in young children. Pathological characteristics are edema and central demyelination; symptoms include vomiting and apathy followed by stupor, seizures, coma, and death. See also lead poisoning, under poisoning. Called also lead encephalitis and saturnine e.
