| 설명 | 포도당 1몰과 갈락토오스 1몰로 이루어지는 이당류의 하나. 분자식 C22H22O11, 분자량 342.29. 유당이라고도 한다. 무색결정으로서 약간의 단맛이 있다. 우유 속에는 약 4.5%, 인유 속에는 약 7% 함유되어 있다. 환원기의 입체배치의 차에 의해 α형과 β형이 있으며, 20℃에서는 약 37.3% 대 62.7%의 비율로 존재한다. 이 상태의 락토오스를 평형락토오스라고 한다. 어린이의 영양제로 쓴다. |

| lactose operon | Group of adjacent and coordinately controlled genes concerned with the metabolism of lactose in E. Coli. The lac operon was the first example of a group of genes under the control of an operator region to which a lactose repressor binds. When the bacteria are transferred to lactose containing medium, allolactose (which forms by transglycosylation when lactose is present in the cell) binds to the repressor, inhibits the binding of the repressor to the operator and allows transcription of mRNA for enzymes involved in galactose metabolism and transport across the membrane (_ galactosidase, galactoside permease and thiogalactoside transacetylase). | lactose synthase | <enzyme> An enzyme of the transferase class that catalyses the transfer of galactose from udpgalactose to glucose, forming lactose.
