| 설명 | 상피세포에서 기원한 악성종양을 암종(carcinoma)이라고 하고, 중간엽조직에서 기원한 결합조직, 뼈, 근육 등에서 기원한 악성 종양을 육종이라고 한다. 예를 들어 골육종(osteosarcoma)란 뼈의 일차적인 악성 종양의 하나로 뼈조직이나 연골 조직을 근간으로 하여 악성 결합조직 기질로 이루어져 있는 것을 말함. 근육육종, 지방육종, 섬유육종도 여기에 속한다. |

| sarcoma, kaposi | A multicentric, malignant neoplastic vascular proliferation characterised by the development of bluish-red cutaneous nodules, usually on the lower extremities, most often on the toes or feet, and slowly increasing in size and number and spreading to more proximal areas. The tumours have endothelium-lined channels and vascular spaces admixed with variably sized aggregates of spindle-shaped cells, and often remain confined to the skin and subcutaneous tissue, but widespread visceral involvement may occur. Kaposi's sarcoma occurs spontaneously in jewish and italian males in europe and the united states. An aggressive variant in young children is endemic in some areas of africa. A third form occurs in about 0.04% of kidney transplant patients. There is also a high incidence in aids patients. Hhv-8 is the suspected cause. (12 Dec 1998) |

| Kaposi sarcoma | <oncology, tumour> A sarcoma of spindle cells mixed with angiomatous tissue. A relatively rare malignant skin tumour that results in multifocal purplish coloured papules or plaques that eventually form nodules. Usually classed as an angioblastic tumour. Seen most commonly in patients who suffer from AIDS. Tumours may also occur within the intestines and lungs. Diagnosis may be confirmed with skin biopsy or upper GI endoscopy. | avian leukaemia-sarcoma complex | A term applied to a group of transmissible virus-induced diseases of chickens causing sarcoma, myeloblastosis, erythroblastosis, leukosis, osteopetrosis, and lymphomatosis. These agents are closely related viruses (avian leukosis-sarcoma virus) causing prolferation of immature erythroid, myeloid, or lymphoid cells, a division of the RNA tumour viruses (subfamily Oncovirinae) causing the avian leukosis-sarcoma complex of diseases; the viruses are subgrouped according to antigenic characteristics and growth in defined types of tissue culture cells.
