| ischemic colitis |
A disease characterized by decreased blood flow to the colon. This usually occurs in the descending colon. This causes fever, pain and bloody diarrhea. It is usually treated without surgery. It may be complicated by infection. An endoscopy or barium study of the colon may be needed to evaluate this condition. After healing has occurred, a stricture (narrowing) of the colon may result.
