intraductal papilloma a tumor in a lactiferous duct, usually attached to the wall by a stalk; a distinction is often made between the solitary type (tumors found in just one duct and often benign) and the multiple type (tumors found in several or many ducts, often bilaterally, and often premalignant). The solitary type often has a serous or bloody discharge from the nipple, whereas the multiple type does not.

intraductal carcinoma A noninvasive, precancerous condition in which abnormal cells are found in the lining of a breast duct. The abnormal cells have not spread outside the duct to other tissues in the breast. In some cases, intraductal carcinoma may become invasive cancer and spread to other tissues, although it is not known at this time how to predict which lesions will become invasive. Also called ductal carcinoma in situ.
