| apex of cusp of tooth | The tip of the peaklike projections from the crown of a tooth. Synonym: apex cuspidis dentis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| posterior cusp of atrioventricular valve | The posterior leaflet of either the tricuspid or mitral valves. Synonym: cuspis posterior valvae atrioventricularis dextrae/sinistrae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cusp | A rigid, sharp point, especially on a leaf. (09 Oct 1997) |
| cusp angle | The angle made by the slopes of a cusp with the plane which passes through the tip of the cusp and which is perpendicular to a line bisecting the cusp, measured mesiodistally or buccolingually, the angle made by the slopes of a cusp with a perpendicular line bisecting the cusp, measured mesiodistally or buccolingually, one-half of the included angle between the buccal and lingual or mesial and distal cusp inclines. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cusp height | The shortest distance between the tip of a cusp and its base plane, the shortest distance between the deepest part of the central fossa of a posterior tooth and a line connecting the points of the cusps of the tooth. Facial height, the linear dimension in the midline from the hairline to the menton. Nasal height, the distance between the nasion and the lower border of the nasal aperture. Orbital height, the distance between the midpoints of the upper and lower margins of the orbit. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cusp of Carabelli | A fifth cusp found on the maxillary first molars, usually located lingual to the mesiolingual cusp. (05 Mar 2000) |
| cusp of tooth | An elevation or mound on the crown of a tooth making up a part of the occlusal surface. Synonym: cuspis dentis, cuspis coronae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| semilunar cusp | One of the three semilunar segments serving as the three cusps of a valve preventing regurgitation at the beginning of the aorta; a similar valve guards the entrance of the pulmonary trunk; the segments are named, respectively, anterior, right, and left in the pulmonary valve, and posterior, right, and left in the aortic valve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| septal cusp of tricuspid valve | The leaflet of the tricuspid valve located adjacent to the interventricular septum. Synonym: cuspis septalis valvae atrioventricularis dextrae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| talon cusp | An anomalous cusp that projects lingually from the cingulum of permanent incisors. Origin: Eng. Claw, heel, fr. O. Fr., fr. L. Talus, ankle (05 Mar 2000) |
| acute interstitial nephritis | <nephrology> A relatively uncommon condition which is characterised by inflammation of the renal tubules, glomeruli and surrounding tissue. Interstitial nephritis is usually be temporary and often associated with the use of a particular medication. Chronic and progressive forms do exist. Drugs that have been associated with interstitial nephritis include penicillins, ampicillin, sulpha drugs, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, furosemide and thiazide diuretics. May result in mild kidney dysfunction or acute renal failure. Treatment may be with corticosteroids. Incidence: 1 in 25,000. (29 Dec 1997) |
| acute interstitial pneumonia | A severe and usually fatal form of pneumonia occurring primarily in infants usually considered a form of hypersensitivity pneumonitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| acute interstitial pneumonitis | Usually considered a form of hypersensitivity pneumonitis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| apical interstitial lung disease | <radiology> A radiological diagnosis where fibrosis is seen in the apices (upper sections) of the lungs. Likely causes include: cystic fibrosis, ankylosing spondylitis, sarcoidosis, silicosis, eosinophlic granuloma, TB and fungus, particularly aspergillus infection. (25 Jun 1999) |
