| hemispherium bulbi urethrae | One of the lateral halves of the bulb of the penis that are separated by a median groove on the posterior part of the undersurface. Synonym: hemispherium bulbi urethrae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| hemispherium cerebri | 1. A half sphere; one half of a sphere or globe, when divided by a plane passing through its center. 2. Half of the terrestrial globe, or a projection of the same in a map or picture. 3. The people who inhabit a hemisphere. "He died . . . Mourned by a hemisphere." (J. P. Peters)ten Cerebral hemispheres. <anatomy> See Brain. <physics> Magdeburg hemispheres, two hemispherical cups forming, when placed together, a cavity from which the air can be withdrawn by an air pump; used to illustrate the pressure of the air. So called because invented by Otto von Guericke at Magdeburg. Origin: L. Hemisphaerium, Gr.; half = sphere: cf. F. Hemisphere. See Hemi-, and Sphere. Source: Websters Dictionary (01 Mar 1998) |
| ala cerebelli | The lateral winglike projection of the central lobule of the cerebellum. Synonym: ala lobuli centralis, ala cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| alae lingulae cerebelli | Small lateral prolongations of the lingula of the vermis of the cerebellum resting on the dorsal surface of the superior cerebellar peduncle. Synonym: alae lingulae cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| amygdala cerebelli | A rounded lobule on the undersurface of each cerebellar hemisphere, continuous medially with the uvula of the cerebellar vermis. Synonym: tonsilla cerebelli, amygdala cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cerebelli inferior anterior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, basilar; distribution, lower surface of lateral lobes of cerebellum, choroid plexus in cerebellopontine angle; anastomoses, posterior inferior cerebellar; usual source of labyrinthine artery. Synonym: arteria cerebelli inferior anterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cerebelli inferior posterior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, vertebral; distribution, lateral medulla, choroid plexus of fourth ventricle, and cerebellum; anastomoses, superior cerebellar and anterior inferior cerebellar. Synonym: arteria cerebelli inferior posterior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| arteria cerebelli superior | <anatomy, artery> Origin, basilar; distribution, upper surface of cerebellum, colliculi, and most of the cerebellar nuclei; anastomoses, posterior inferior cerebellar. Synonym: arteria cerebelli superior. (05 Mar 2000) |
| brachium conjunctivum cerebelli | A large bundle of nerve fibres that originate from the dentate and interpositus nuclei and emerges from the cerebellum in the rostral direction, along the lateral wall of the fourth ventricle. The bundle submerges from the dorsal surface of the brainstem into the mesencephalic tegmentum, where all of its fibres cross in the massive decussation of the superior cerebellar peduncles. Part of the bundle terminates in the contralateral red nucleus; the bulk of the fibres continue rostrally to parts of the ventral intermediate nucleus of thalamus, ventral posterolateral nucleus of thalamus, and central lateral nucleus of thalamus. Synonym: pedunculus cerebellaris superior, brachium conjunctivum cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| vallecula cerebelli | A deep hollow on the inferior surface of the cerebellum, between the hemispheres, containing the medulla oblongata and the falx cerebelli. Synonym: vallis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| venae cerebelli | The veins draining the cerebellum. See: inferior veins of cerebellar hemisphere, superior veins of cerebellar hemisphere, petrosal vein, precentral cerebellar vein, inferior vein of vermis, superior vein of vermis. Synonym: venae cerebelli, veins of cerebellum. (05 Mar 2000) |
| venae cerebelli inferiores | Several veins draining the inferior portion of the cerebellar hemispheres; they terminate in the petrosal vein. Synonym: venae hemispherii cerebelli inferiores. (05 Mar 2000) |
| venae cerebelli superiores | Several veins draining the superior part of the cerebellar hemispheres; they terminate in the superior petrosal sinus or the petrosal vein. Synonym: venae hemispherii cerebelli superiores. (05 Mar 2000) |
| venae hemispherii cerebelli inferiores | Several veins draining the inferior portion of the cerebellar hemispheres; they terminate in the petrosal vein. Synonym: venae hemispherii cerebelli inferiores. (05 Mar 2000) |
