a cyclic mechanism for transferring electrons from cytosolic NADH to the mitochondrial electron transport chain and thus to oxygen, acting by means of enzyme-catalyzed redox reactions that interconvert glycerol 3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate.
