| 설명 | 육아조직으로 이루어진 염증성 결절. 눈으로 보았을 때 크고 작은 결절이나 침윤이 전신에 퍼진 결절모양인 염증성 병터를 말한다. 병리학적으로 염증은 순환장애, 특히 염증이 있을 때 혈관 밖으로 액체가 나와 병터에 모인 삼출성 염증과 국소의 세포 중 그물내피계 세포의 증식을 특징으로 하는 육아종성 염증을 분류된다. 구조는 섬유모세포, 왕성한 포식작용을 하는 상피모양세포 그리고 혈관내피세포로 이루어져 있다. 일반적으로 세포는 결핵의 육아종에서 특징적으로 볼 수 있는 랑게르한스형 거대세포와 같이 큰 세포질과 많은 핵을 가진 거대세포로 번형된 것으로 알려져 있다. 육아종성 염증은 각각 특별한 병의 원인에 따라 특수한 형태를 나타내어 육아종을 형성하는 특수성 염증의 한 형태이기도 하다. 주로 결핵-나병-매독 등이 육아종을 형성하는 염증의 대표적인 것이다. 그 밖에 여러 가지 이물질에 대한 처리과정으로 생기는 육아조직이 하나의 거대세포를 함유한 결절성 병터로서 인정되는 수가 있다. |

| 설명 | 동물의 결합 조직 가운데 널리 분포하는 세포. 결합조직과 점막조직 내에 있는 호염기성 색소로 이염색성(metachromasia)을 나타내는 과립을 가진 방추형의 세포에 작은 둥근 핵을 가진다. 비만세포의 표면에는 IgE에 대한 수용체가 존재하며, 수용체에 결합한 IgE 분자들끼리 다가의 항원에 의해 서로 연결되면 비만세포 과립탈출 반응이 일어나, 히스타민, 세로토닌, 헤파린 등의 화학전달 물질이 방출되어, 즉시형 알레르기 반응 등의 증상을 일으킨다. 피부, 장막, 혈관 주위, 점막 주변에 있다. |

| reparative giant cell granuloma | <dermatology, oncology> A non-neoplastic lesion characterised by a proliferation of granulation tissue containing numerous multinucleated giant cells. It occurs on the gingiva and alveolar mucosa (occasionally on other soft tissues) where it presents as a soft red-blue haemorrhagic nodular swelling. It also occurs within the mandible or maxilla as a unilocular or multilocular radiolucency. Peripheral giant cell granuloma refers to the gingiva (giant cell epulis), central refers to the jaw. Microscopically similar lesions occur in the tubular bones of the hands and feet, are considered neoplastic, and may have a malignant course. | giant cell arteritis | <pathology> An inflammatory condition of the temporal artery. It is a serious chronic vascular disease, characterised by inflammation of the walls of the blood vessels (vasculitis). The age of affected patients is usually over 50 years of age. It most often involves the carotid artery system, and can lead to blindness or stroke. It can be diagnosed by biopsy of an artery, but there is often a false negative result. Elevation of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate is typical. Treatment is with high dose steroids. Common symptoms include headaches and tenderness over the temple (temporal artery).
