  • Gap Junctions - »õâ Connections between cells which allow passage of small molecules and electric current. Gap junctions were first described anatomically as regions of close apposition between cells with a narrow (1-2 nm) gap between cell membranes. The variety in the properties of gap junctions is reflected in the number of CONNEXINS, the family of proteins which form the junctions.
Synonyms : Gap Junction, Junction, Gap, Junctions, Gap
  • GAP-43 Protein - »õâ A nervous tissue specific protein which is highly expressed in NEURONS during development and NERVE REGENERATION. It has been implicated in neurite outgrowth, long-term potentiation, SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION, and NEUROTRANSMITTER release. (From Neurotoxicology 1994;15(1):41-7) It is also a substrate of PROTEIN KINASE C.
Synonyms : GAP43 Protein, Phosphoprotein B-50, Phosphoprotein F1, Phosphoprotein pp46, B 50 Protein, GAP 43 Protein, Growth Associated Protein 43, Nerve Growth Cone Membrane Protein GAP 43, Phosphoprotein B 50
