| 설명 | 눈속의 장기중 하나에 해당. 각막을 통과한 빛은 수정체를 통과하여 망막에 상이 맺히게 되고, 망막은 이 들어온 빛을 자극을 신경세포가 알 수 있는 신호체계로 바꾸어 뇌에 전달해 주게 된다. 각막과 수정체의 중요한 역할은 굴절력을 증가시키는 것이다. 그리하여 올바로 상이 망막에 맺힐 수 있도록 도와주게 된다.  |

| 설명 | 눈을 한곳에 고정시킨 채, 관찰할 수 있는 주변공간을 시야라 한다. 시야를 검사하는 가장 간단한 방법은 대면검사(confronting test)이다. 이것은 피검사자의 눈을 검사자의 눈에 맞추어 보도록 하여 눈을 고정시킨채, 검사자가 손가락끝을 위쪽, 아래쪽, 왼쪽, 오른쪽, 그리고 비스듬히 경사진 곳 등으로 옮겨보아 피검사자가 관찰할 수 있는지 여부를 정하는 검사법이다. 이보다 정확한 검사법은 자동식 컴퓨터시야검사법이 있다. 대개, 눈자체의 이상이 있어도 시야검사에서 이상이 나오지만, 이외 뇌의 이상으로 시각의 형성경로에 이상이 있어도 역시 이상소견을 보인다. |

| cardioid dark field condenser | <microscopy> A condenser designed with two reflecting surfaces, the first, a spherical surface which reflects the rays to a second, cardioid (heart-shaped) surface. The virtue in such an arrangement is that, if the cardioid surface is of true figure, the lens is both achromatic and aplanatic. It has a limiting numerical aperture of about 1.0. Thus objectives of a greater numerical aperture cannot be used successfully with it. | receptive field | That part of the retina whose photoreceptors (rods and cones) pertain to a single optic nerve fibre. The response of a neuron to stimulation of its receptive field depends on the type of neuron and the part of the field that is illuminated; an "on-centre" neuron is stimulated by light falling at the centre of its receptive field and inhibited by light falling at the periphery; an "off-centre" neuron reacts in exactly the opposite fashion; that is, it is inhibited by light falling at the centre of its receptive field. In either case, the net response depends on a complex switching action in the retina. | reversed-field pinch | <radiobiology> A toroidal magnetic confinement scheme which could constitute an alternative to the Tokamak for building a fusion reactor. It is characterised by a magnetic field mostly generated by the plasma itself, with toroidal and poloidal components of comparable intensities, in contrast with the Tokamak where most of the field is toroidal and externally applied. The name of the configuration is given by the fact that the toroidal component of the magnetic field changes sign in the outer region of the plasma.
