1. that due to intense, prolonged physical exertion, with symptoms often resembling those elicited by exercise in persons with occlusive arterial disease. 2. severe muscular soreness and recumbency in an animal during exercise, either after it does unusually strenuous exercise or when it returns to heavy exercise after a prolonged rest; symptoms include heavy sweating, rapid pulse, and stiffness of gait, sometimes with myoglobinuria.
