| buccal mucosa | <anatomy, gastroenterology> Mucous membrane lining the inner cheek. (27 Sep 1997) |
| bursa mucosa | <anatomy> A sac containing synovial fluid which occurs at sites of friction, as between a tendon and a bone over which it plays, or subcutaneously over a bony prominence. The NA lists the following types: subcutaneous synovial bursa, bursa synovialis subcutanea; submuscular synovial bursa, bursa synovialis submuscularis; subfascial synovial bursa, bursa synovialis subfascialis; and subtendinous synovial bursa, bursa synovialis subtendinea. Synonym: bursa synovialis, bursa mucosa. (05 Mar 2000) |

| vagina mucosa tendinis | A sheath of synovial membrane enveloping certain of the tendons; it contains a small amount of synovial fluid. Synonym: vagina synovialis tendinis, mucous sheath of tendon, theca tendinis, vagina mucosa tendinis, vaginal synovial membrane. (05 Mar 2000) |
| gastric mucosa | Surface epithelium in the stomach that invaginates into the lamina propria, forming gastric pits. Tubular glands, characteristic of each region of the stomach (cardiac, gastric, and pyloric), empty into the gastric pits. The gastric mucosa is made up of several different kinds of cells. (12 Dec 1998) |
| giant hypertrophy of gastric mucosa | Gastric mucosal hyperplasia, either mucoid or glandular; the latter type may be associated with the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Synonym: giant hypertrophy of gastric mucosa, hypertrophic gastritis, Menetrier's syndrome. (05 Mar 2000) |
| gingival mucosa | That portion of the oral mucous membrane that covers and is attached to the necks of the teeth and the alveolar process of the jaws; it is demarcated from lining mucosa on the facial aspect by a clearly defined line which marks the mucogingival junction, and, in contrast to the lining mucosa, is keratinised and lighter in colour; on the palatal surface, the gingiva blends imperceptibly with the palatal mucosa. (05 Mar 2000) |
| glands of biliary mucosa | Small, mucous, tubuloalveolar glands in the mucosa of the larger bile ducts and especially in the neck of the gallbladder. Synonym: glandulae mucosae biliosae, Luschka's cystic glands, Theile's glands. (05 Mar 2000) |
| glandula mucosa | <anatomy> A type of merocrine gland that produces a thick (mucopolysaccharide rich) secretion as opposed to a serous gland). (18 Nov 1997) |
| region of olfactory mucosa | The specialised olfactory receptive area that includes the upper one-third of the nasal septum and the lateral wall above the superior concha; it is lined with olfactory mucosa. Synonym: regio olfactoria tunicae mucosae nasi, olfactory region of tunica mucosa of nose, Schultze's membrane. (05 Mar 2000) |
| region of respiratory mucosa | The area commencing at the vestibule of the nose lined with respiratory mucosa; with the exception of the olfactory mucusa, it includes the entire nasal cavity. Synonym: regio respiratoria tunicae mucosae nasi, respiratory region of tunica mucosa of nose. (05 Mar 2000) |
| respiratory mucosa | Pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells and a lamina propria containing, in addition to connective tissue, numerous seromucous glands and in some regions many thin-walled veins which line the airways. See: region of respiratory mucosa. (05 Mar 2000) |
