Synonym: chronic discoid lupus erythematosus. (05 Mar 2000) |

| discoid | Shaped like a disk. Origin: Gr. Diskos = disk (18 Nov 1997) |
| discoid lupus erythematosus | A form of lupus erythematosus in which cutaneous lesions are present; these commonly appear on the face and are atrophic plaques with erythema, hyperkeratosis, follicular plugging, and telangiectasia; in some instances systemic lupus erythematosis may develop. Synonym: chronic discoid lupus erythematosus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| exudative discoid and lichenoid dermatitis | Disease resembling an exudative form of nummular eczema described in Jewish males with oval lesions on the penis, trunk, and face. Synonym: exudative discoid and lichenoid dermatitis, Sulzberger-Garbe syndrome. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lupus erythematosus, discoid | A chronic form of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (lupus erythematosus, cutaneous) in which the skin lesions mimic those of the systemic form but in which systemic signs are rare. It is characterised by the presence of discoid skin plaques showing varying degrees of oedema, erythema, scaliness, follicular plugging, and skin atrophy. Lesions are surrounded by an elevated erythematous border. The condition typically involves the face and scalp, but widespread dissemination may occur. (12 Dec 1998) |
| generalised pustular psoriasis of Zambusch | An extensive exacerbation of psoriasis, with pustule formation in the normal and psoriatic skin, fever, and granulocytosis; sometimes precipitated by oral steroids. Synonym: generalised pustular psoriasis of Zambusch. A local pustular eruption of the palms and soles, occurring most commonly in a patient with psoriasis; difficult to distinguish from acrodermatitis continua. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis | <dermatology> A common chronic, squamous dermatosis, marked by exacerbations and remissions and having a polygenic inheritance pattern. The most distinctive histological findings in well developed psoriasis are Munro microabscesses and spongiform pustules. It is characterised clinically by the presence of rounded, circumscribed, erythematous, dry scaling patches of various sizes, covered by greyish white or silvery white, umbilicated and lamellar scales, which have a predilection for the extensor surfaces, nails, scalp, genitalia and lumbosacral region. Central clearing and coalescence of the lesions produce a wide variety of clinical configurations, including annular or circinate, discoid or nummular, figurate and gyrate arrangements. Origin: Gr. Psoriasis (18 Nov 1997) |
| psoriasis annularis | Psoriasis in which healing is taking place at the centre of the lesion while the process continues at the periphery, producing a ring-shaped or annular lesion. Synonym: psoriasis annularis, psoriasis annulata, psoriasis orbicularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis arthropica | Psoriasis associated with severe arthritis resembling rheumatoid arthritis, although serum rheumatoid factor is absent. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis circinata | Psoriasis in which healing is taking place at the centre of the lesion while the process continues at the periphery, producing a ring-shaped or annular lesion. Synonym: psoriasis annularis, psoriasis annulata, psoriasis orbicularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis diffusa | Diffused psoriasis, a form of psoriasis with extensive coalescence of the lesions. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis discoidea | Psoriasis in which the lesions are discrete and disklike. Synonym: psoriasis nummularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis geographica | Psoriasis gyrata in which the lesions suggest the coast outline on a map. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis guttata | Psoriasis occurring abruptly in round patches of small size; seen in young persons following streptococcal infections. (05 Mar 2000) |
| psoriasis gyrata | Psoriasis circinata in which there is a coalescence of the rings giving rise to figures of various outlines. (05 Mar 2000) |
