dichromatic v. a color vision deficiency (q.v.) in which one of the three cone pigments is missing altogether. The most common forms are protanopia and deuteranopia, each of which is transmitted by X-linked inheritance and affects about 1 per cent of white males. The third form, tritanopia, is very rare; and a fourth, tetartanopia, is of doubtful existence.
