deoxyribodipyrimidine photo-lyase <enzyme> An enzyme in yeast that is activated by light, whereupon it can reverse a previous photochemical reaction by cleaving the cyclobutane ring of the thymine dimer.
It catalyses the reactivation by light of UV-irradiated DNA and cleaves two carbon-carbon bonds in pyrimidine dimers in DNA.
Synonym: dipyrimidine photolyase, photoreactivating enzyme.
Chemical name: Deoxyribocyclobutadipyrimidine pyrimidine-lyase
Registry number: EC 4.1.99.3
(21 Jun 2000)
photolyase See: deoxyribodipyrimidine photolyase.
Origin: photo-+ G. Lyo, to loosen, + -ase
(05 Mar 2000)
pyrimidine(6-4)pyrimidone photolyase <enzyme> Catalyses the light-dependent repair of pyrimidine(6-4)pyrimidone photoproducts; shows 20-22% sequence identity with class I cpd photolyase; genbank d83701 (drosophila), d83702 (human)
Registry number: EC 4.1.99.-
Synonym: (6-4)photolyase
(26 Jun 1999)
dipyrimidine photolyase deoxyribodipyrimidine photolyase
DNA photolyase <enzyme, molecular biology> A DNA repair enzyme which recognises and removes dimers that have formed between pyrimidine nitrogenous bases on the same strand as each other, as a result of too much ultraviolet radiation. The enzyme can only do this if visible light is present.
(09 Oct 1997)
8-hydroxy-5-deazaflavin-dependent DNA photolyase <enzyme> From anacystis nidulans; purified in streptomyces coelicolor; distinguish from folate-dependent DNA photolyase
Registry number: EC 4.1.99.-
Synonym: 8-hdfd-DNA photolyase
(26 Jun 1999)
