| constrictive bronchiolitis | Obliteration of bronchioles by scarring following bronchiolitis obliterans. Compare: proliferative bronchiolitis. (05 Mar 2000) |

| constrictive endocarditis | Thickening of the endocardium due to inflammation of any origin that restricts the diastolic relaxation of one or both ventricles producing diastolic ventricular failure. (05 Mar 2000) |
| constrictive pericarditis | <pathology> Chronic inflammation of the pericardial sac (pericarditis) can lead to scarring and fibrosis of the pericardium. Due to this process, the pericardium can interfere with the hearts ability to pump blood into the systemic circulation. Causes include tuberculosis infection, radiation therapy, cardiac surgery, viral infection or autoimmune disease. Symptoms are those of right-sided congestive heart failure. Surgery to cut the pericardium may be necessary. Complications include cardiac tamponade and pulmonary oedema. See: pericardial sac. (27 Sep 1997) |
| chronic constrictive pericarditis | Tuberculous or other infection of the pericardium, with thickening of the membrane and constriction of the cardiac chambers. (05 Mar 2000) |

| constrictive pericarditis |
The pericardium is the sac around the heart. In some patients, this sac can become inflamed and scarred. If this scarring process produces a contracture or shrinkage of the pericardium, it can prevent the heart from filling to its full extent. This disease is known as constrictive pericarditis.

| constrictive pericarditis |
A condition in which the pericardium, the fibrous sac that envelops the heart, becomes excessively thick and constricts the heart. This constriction prevents the heart from adequately filling, which leads to inadequate and poor heart function. (See Pericardium, Pericarditis). If the constriction is significant, surgery is performed to remove the thickened pericardium and release the constriction of the heart. This operation is known as a pericardiectomy.
