| 설명 | 큰 창자의 일부분으로 곧창자과 막창자를 연결하는 부위인 오름창자, 가로창자, 내림창자, 구불창자를 지칭하는 말이지만, 큰창자와 동의어로 사용될 경우도 있다. 큰창자는 작은창자에서 소화, 흡수된 것을 받아서 항문까지 보내는 부분이다. 큰창자에서 전해질이나 수용성 비타민 등의 흡수가 일어나기도 하나 작은창자에 비하면 아주 미미한 양이 흡수가 된다. 대신에 많은 양의 수분이 흡수가 되어서 대변의 형성에 기여한다. 그리고 큰창자에는 정상적으로 세균이 있어서 소화, 흡수되고 남은 물질을 분해한다. |

| mitotic shake off method | <cell biology, procedure> A method of collecting cells in mitosis, so that the chromosomes can be examined and the karyotype determined. Many cultured cells round up during mitosis and so become less firmly attached to the culture substratum. Cells in mitosis thus can be removed into suspension by gentle shaking of the culture vessel, leaving the nonmitotic cells still attached. | scrape-off layer | <radiobiology> Outer layer of a plasma which is affected (scraped off) by a divertor or limiter. That is, the outer layer of a magnetically confined plasma (ca. 2 cm thick) where the field lines penetrate a material surface (limiter or divertor plate) rather than close upon themselves. This region defines the outer limit of the plasma because any plasma crossing into the SOL is rapidly lost since transport along the field is much faster than that across the field.
