| pectoral and abdominal anterior cutaneous branch of intercostal nerves | The ventral primary rami of spinal nerves T7-T11 (seventh to eleventh intercostal nerves), which supply the abdominal as well as the thoracic wall; innervate intercostal, subcostal, serratus posterior inferior, transversus abdominis, external and internal oblique, and rectus abdominis muscles, and provide sensory branches to the periphery of the diaphragm, and parietal pleura and peritoneum. Synonym: rami cutanei anteriores pectoralis et abdominalis nervorum intercostalium, ramus cutaneus anterior (pectoralis et abdominalis) nervorum thoracicorum, anterior cutaneous nerves of abdomen, pectoral and abdominal anterior cutaneous branch of intercostal nerves. | collateral branches of posterior intercostal arteries 3-11 | Branch arising near angle of rib and descending to run along superior border of rib below; distribution: lower half of intercostal spaces 3-11; anastomoses: collateral branches of anterior intercostal arteries. Synonym: ramus collateralis arteriarum intercostalium posteriorum III-XI. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior cutaneous branches of intercostal nerves | Medial mammary branches of anterior cutaneous branches of ventral primary rami of thoracic spinal nerves. See: medial mammary branches. (05 Mar 2000) |
| intercostal nerves | The ventral rami of the thoracic nerves from segments t1 through t11. The intercostal nerves supply motor and sensory innervation to the thorax and abdomen. The skin and muscles supplied by a given pair are called, respectively, a dermatome and a myotome. (12 Dec 1998) |
| lateral cutaneous branches of intercostal nerves | Branches arising in approximately the anterior axillary line at the level of the second through sixth intercostal spaces. Synonym: rami mammarii laterales nervorum intercostalium, lateral cutaneous branches of intercostal nerves. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lateral mammary branches of lateral cutaneous branches of intercostal nerves | Branches arising from the lateral cutaneous branches of the ventral primary rami of spinal nerves (intercostal nerves) T-3 to T-6 which run anteriorly to supply the lateral aspect of the breast. Synonym: rami mammarii laterales rami cutanei lateralis nervorum thoracicorum, rami mammarii laterales rami cutanei lateralis nervorum intercostalium, lateral mammary branches of lateral cutaneous branches of intercostal nerves. (05 Mar 2000) |
| dorsal branch of the posterior intercostal arteries 3-11 | Terminal branch (with ventral branch) of the 3rd through 11th posterior intercostal arteries, distributed to thoracic portion of posterior vertebral column, spinal cord and environs, and back. Synonym: ramus dorsalis arteriarum intercostalium posteriorum III-XI. (05 Mar 2000) |
| dorsal branch of the posterior intercostal veins 4-11 | Major tributary of the 4th through 11th posterior intercostal veins; area drained is the same as that supplied by the dorsal branch of posterior intercostal arteries. Synonym: ramus dorsalis venarum intercostalium posteriorum IV-XI. (05 Mar 2000) |
| dorsal branch of the superior intercostal artery | <anatomy, artery> Branches of the 1st and 2nd posterior intercostal arteries which arise as branches of the supreme intercostal artery. The distribution is the same as for the dorsal branches of the other posterior intercostal arteries at the T1-T2 vertebral level. Synonym: rami dorsales arteriae intercostalis supremae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| recurrent meningeal branch of spinal nerves | A branch from the initial (mixed) part of each spinal nerve passing in a recurrent fashion back through the intervertebral foramen to supply spinal meninges, the posterior longitudinal ligament, posterolateral periphery of the intervertebral disc, and periosteum of the vertebrae. Synonym: ramus meningeus nervorum spinalium, recurrent meningeal branch of spinal nerves, sinuvertebral nerves. (05 Mar 2000) |

Synonym: ramus communicans cum nervo glossopharyngeo, ramus communicans nervi glossopharyngei cum ramo auriculari nervi vagalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| communicating branch of otic ganglion with meningeal branch of mandibular nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A branch of otic ganglion to the meningeal branch of mandibular nerve conveying postsynaptic parasympathetic fibres which run back to the main stem of the mandibular nerve for distribution to the parotid gland via the auriculotemporal nerve.
