| 설명 | 목소리를 내는 데 꼭 필요한 중요한 구조물이다. 성대주위에는 작은 근육들이 존재하여, 하는 소리가 나오도록 해 주는 데, 이 근육들은 주로 되돌이후두신경의 지배를 받고 있으며, 성대의 감각신경은 위후두신경이 맡고 있다. 이중 왼쪽 반회후두신경은 신경의 주행경로상 밑으로 내려갔다 다시 올라와 분포하게 되므로 폐암으로 인한 폐수술시에 손상받기 쉬워서, 수술합병증으로 목쉰소리가 남기도 한다. 또한 성대가 막히면, 공기의 통로가 막히게 되므로 호흡곤란을 유발한다. 성대나 그 주위에서 종양이 발생할 수 있으며, 흡연이 주요한 원인이다. 성대자체에서 종양이 발생하면 목쉰소리가 나타나 쉽게 알 수 있으나, 성대이하부위나, 이상부위에서 발생하면 증상이 늦게 나타나므로, 다른 곳으로의 전이소견이나, 혹은 호흡곤란으로 나타나기도 한다. |

| 설명 | 얼굴-목-어깨 등에 급격하면서도 율동적으로 반복해서 일어나는 불수의 운동. 눈을 깜박이는 운동, 고개를 끄덕이는 운동, 고개를 갸웃거리는 운동, 머리를 흔드는 운동, 혀를 차는 운동 등을 심하게 반복하는 증세를 들 수 있다. 히스테리성격에서 볼 수 있는 것과 추체외로계의 장애에 의한 것이 있다. 특히 뇌염 후의 파킨슨병에 합병하는 수가 많다. 유효한 치료법은 아직 없고, 진정제를 투여한다. 규칙적인 체조가 효과를 볼 때도 있다. |

| 설명 | 백혈병(leukemia)란 비정상적인 백혈구 세포의 증식에 의해 일어나는 병적인 상태를 말하는데, 흔히 말초혈액에 미분화세포가 나타나며, 정상적인 적혈구세포와 백혈구세포, 혈소판의 급격한 감소를 가져와 정상적인 세포에 의해 행해지는 여러 기능의 감소를 주증상으로 하여 병원에 찾아오게 된다. 따라서 적혈구세포의 감소로 인한 빈혈, 백혈구세포의 감소로 인한 많은 감염증세(흔히 걸리지 않는 세균에 의한 감염, 지나치게 잦은 감기, 폐렴 등), 혈소판세포의 감소로 인한 출혈증상이 나타난다. 또한 피를 생산하는 골수 조직에서는 이런 비정상적인 세포의 증식만을 볼 수 있으며, 정상적인 세포의 증식은 보기 힘들다. 만성림프성 백혈병은 서양에서는 비교적 백혈병 중에서 흔한 형이지만 동양권에서는 아주 드문 백혈병의 형태이다. 대개 60세 이상의 고령층에서 많이 생기고 30세 이하에서는 거의 찾아볼 수가 없다. 혈액검사상에서 림프구의 많은 증가를 볼 수가 있고, 대신에 다른 혈액세포들은 감소를 나타낸다. 백혈병 중 예후가 좋은 편이며 대개 치료는 항암제를 이용한 화학요법을 많이 사용하며, 평균 생존기간은 4~5년이다. |
