| chlamydoconidium |
A thallic conidium formed from a preexisting hyphal cell by modification. This usually involves increased thickness of the wall and sometimes enlargement of the cell, with the protoplasm becoming dense. The conidium is released by fracture or lysis of the adjacent hypha and functions as a survival propagule.
