mural thrombosis The formation of a thrombus in contact with the endocardial lining of a cardiac chamber, or a large blood vessel, if not occlusive.
(05 Mar 2000)
coronary thrombosis A blood clot in the lumen of a coronary artery. This is the mechanism by which a myocardial infarction results. A thrombus forms when microscopic cracks (from the effects of atherosclerosis) occur in the coronary vessel wall. These tiny cracks expose collagen, thus triggering platelets to adhere to the site and a blood clot to form.
