  • Catheter Ablation - »õâ Removal of tissue with electrical current delivered via electrodes positioned at the distal end of a catheter. Energy sources are commonly direct current (DC-shock) or alternating current at radiofrequencies (usually 750 kHz). The technique is used most often to ablate the AV junction and/or accessory pathways in order to interrupt AV conduction and produce AV block in the treatment of various tachyarrhythmias.
Synonyms : Ablation, Catheter, Ablation, Transvenous Electrical, Catheter Ablation, Electrical, Electric Catheter Ablation, Electrical Catheter Ablation, Percutaneous Catheter Ablation, Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation, Transvenous Catheter Ablation
  • Catheterization - »õâ Use or insertion of a tubular device into a duct, blood vessel, hollow organ, or body cavity for injecting or withdrawing fluids for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. It differs from INTUBATION in that the tube here is used to restore or maintain patency in obstructions.
Synonyms : Cannula, Catheter, Cannulas, Cannulations, Catheterizations, Catheters
  • Catheterization, Central Venous - »õâ Placement of an intravenous catheter in the subclavian, jugular, or other central vein for central venous pressure determination, chemotherapy, hemodialysis, or hyperalimentation.
Synonyms : Catheterization, Central, Central Catheterization, Catheterizations, Central, Catheterizations, Central Venous, Central Catheterizations, Central Venous Catheterizations, Venous Catheterizations, Central
  • Catheterization, Peripheral - »õâ Insertion of a catheter into a peripheral artery, vein, or airway for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
Synonyms : Bronchial Catheterization, Peripheral Arterial Catheterization, Peripheral Venous Catheterization, Arterial Catheterizations, Peripheral, Bronchial Catheterizations, Catheterizations, Bronchial, Catheterizations, Peripheral, Peripheral Catheterizations
  • Catheterization, Swan-Ganz - »õâ Placement of a balloon-tipped catheter into the pulmonary artery through the antecubital, subclavian, and sometimes the femoral vein. It is used to measure pulmonary artery pressure and pulmonary artery wedge pressure which reflects left atrial pressure and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure. The catheter is threaded into the right atrium, the balloon is inflated and the catheter follows the blood flow through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle and out into the pulmonary artery.
Synonyms : Pulmonary Artery Catheterization, Artery Catheterization, Pulmonary, Artery Catheterizations, Pulmonary, Catheterization, Swan Ganz, Catheterizations, Pulmonary Artery, Pulmonary Artery Catheterizations, Swan Ganz Catheterization
