callosal Relating to the corpus callosum.
(05 Mar 2000)
callosal gyrus cingulate gyrus
callosal sulcus The fissure between the corpus callosum and the cingulate gyrus.
Synonym: sulcus corporis callosi, callosal sulcus.
(05 Mar 2000)
dorsal callosal vein It originates on the superior surface of the corpus callosum and runs posteriorly to terminate in the great cerebral vein.
Synonym: dorsal callosal vein, dorsal vein of corpus callosum, posterior marginal vein, posterior pericallosal vein.
(05 Mar 2000)
angular convolution angular gyrus
anterior central convolution Bounded posteriorly by the central sulcus and anteriorly by the precentral sulcus.
Synonym: gyrus precentralis, anterior central convolution, anterior central gyrus, ascending frontal convolution, ascending frontal gyrus.
(05 Mar 2000)
ascending frontal convolution Bounded posteriorly by the central sulcus and anteriorly by the precentral sulcus.
Synonym: gyrus precentralis, anterior central convolution, anterior central gyrus, ascending frontal convolution, ascending frontal gyrus.
(05 Mar 2000)
ascending parietal convolution The anterior convolution of the parietal lobe, bounded in front by the central sulcus (fissure of Rolando) and posteriorly by the interparietal sulcus.
Synonym: gyrus postcentralis, ascending parietal convolution, ascending parietal gyrus, posterior central convolution, posterior central gyrus.
(05 Mar 2000)
cingulate convolution cingulate gyrus
middle frontal convolution A convolution on the convexity of each frontal lobe of the cerebrum running in an anteroposterior direction between the superior and inferior frontal sulci.
Synonym: gyrus frontalis medius, middle frontal convolution.
(05 Mar 2000)
middle temporal convolution A longitudinal gyrus on the lateral surface of the temporal lobe, between the superior and inferior temporal sulci.
Synonym: gyrus temporalis medius, middle temporal convolution, second temporal convolution.
(05 Mar 2000)
convolution 1. A coiling or rolling of an organ.
2. Specifically, a gyrus of the cerebral or cerebellar cortex.
Origin: L. Convolutio
(05 Mar 2000)
posterior central convolution The anterior convolution of the parietal lobe, bounded in front by the central sulcus (fissure of Rolando) and posteriorly by the interparietal sulcus.
Synonym: gyrus postcentralis, ascending parietal convolution, ascending parietal gyrus, posterior central convolution, posterior central gyrus.
(05 Mar 2000)
hippocampal convolution A long convolution on the medial surface of the temporal lobe, forming the lower part of the fornicate gyrus, extending from behind the splenium corporis callosi forward along the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus from which it is demarcated by the hippocampal fissure. The anterior extreme of the gyrus curves back upon itself, forming the uncus, the major location of the olfactory cortex.
See: entorhinal area.
Synonym: gyrus parahippocampalis, hippocampal convolution, hippocampal gyrus.
(05 Mar 2000)
second temporal convolution A longitudinal gyrus on the lateral surface of the temporal lobe, between the superior and inferior temporal sulci.
Synonym: gyrus temporalis medius, middle temporal convolution, second temporal convolution.
