a contagious disease of young calves caused by infection with Fusobacterium necrophorum; symptoms include formation of grayish patches in the mouth or throat, foul-smelling breath, fever, cough, and dyspnea, often ending fatally. In the throat it is called also necrotic laryngitis, and in the mouth it is called also necrotic stomatitis.
