Bowen's disease A skin disease marked by scaly or thickened patches on the skin and often caused by prolonged exposure to arsenic. The patches often occur on sun-exposed areas of the skin and in older, white men. These patches may become malignant (cancerous). Also called precancerous dermatosis or precancerous dermatitis.

Bowen's d. a squamous cell carcinoma in situ, often due to prolonged exposure to arsenic; it occurs as one or more sharply defined, slightly thickened, erythematous, scaly plaques, usually on sun-exposed areas of skin in older white males but sometimes found on mucous membranes. The corresponding lesion on the glans penis is termed erythroplasia of Queyrat. Called also Bowen's precancerous dermatosis and precancerous dermatitis.
