  • beta 2-Glycoprotein I - »õâ A 44-kDa highly glycosylated plasma protein that binds phospholipids including CARDIOLIPIN; APOLIPOPROTEIN E RECEPTOR; membrane phospholipids, and other anionic phospholipid-containing moieties. It plays a role in coagulation and apoptotic processes. Formerly known as apolipoprotein H, it is an autoantigen in patients with ANTIPHOSPHOLIPID ANTIBODIES.
Synonyms : Anticardiolipin Cofactor, Apo H, EC-VMFa, Endothelial Cell-Viability Maintaining Factor, beta(2)GPI, beta2-Glycoprotein I, Cofactor, Anticardiolipin, EC VMFa, Endothelial Cell Viability Maintaining Factor, beta 2 Glycoprotein I, beta2 Glycoprotein I
  • beta 2-Microglobulin - »õâ An 11-kDa protein associated with the outer membrane of many cells including lymphocytes. It is the small subunit of the MHC class I molecule. Association with beta 2-microglobulin is generally required for the transport of class I heavy chains from the endoplasmic reticulum to the cell surface. Beta 2-microglobulin is present in small amounts in serum, csf, and urine of normal people, and to a much greater degree in the urine and plasma of patients with tubular proteinemia, renal failure, or kidney transplants.
    Synonyms : 2-Microglobulin, beta, beta 2 Microglobulin
  • beta Carotene - »õâ A carotenoid that is a precursor of VITAMIN A. It is administered to reduce the severity of photosensitivity reactions in patients with erythropoietic protoporphyria (PORPHYRIA, ERYTHROPOIETIC). (From Reynolds JEF(Ed): Martindale: The Extra Pharmacopoeia (electronic version). Micromedex, Inc, Engewood, CO, 1995.)
Synonyms : 3M Brand of Betacarotene, BellaCarotin, Carotaben, Hermal Brand of Betacarotene, Marlyn Brand of Betacarotene, Max-Caro, Merck Brand of Betacarotene, Provatene, Roche Brand of Betacarotene, Solatene, Solgar Brand of Betacarotene, Vetoron, beta-Carotene, Max Caro
  • beta Catenin - »õâ A multi-functional catenin that participates in CELL ADHESION and nuclear signaling. Beta catenin binds CADHERINS and helps link their cytoplasmic tails to the ACTIN in the CYTOSKELETON via ALPHA CATENIN. It also serves as a transcriptional co-activator and downstream component of WNT PROTEIN-mediated SIGNAL TRANSDUCTION PATHWAYS.
    Synonyms : beta-Catenin, Catenin, beta
  • beta Karyopherins - »õâ Nucleocytoplasmic transport molecules that bind to ALPHA KARYOPHERINS in the CYTOSOL and are involved in transport of molecules through the NUCLEAR PORE COMPLEX. Once inside the CELL NUCLEUS beta karyopherins interact with RAN GTP-BINDING PROTEIN and dissociate from alpha karyopherins. Beta karyopherins bound to RAN GTP-BINDING PROTEIN are then re-transported to the cytoplasm where hydrolysis of the GTP of RAN GTP-BINDING PROTEIN causes release of karyopherin beta.
Synonyms : Importin-beta, Kap95 protein, Karyopherin beta, Karyopherin-beta Subunit, beta Importins, p92 nuclear protein, Importin beta, Importins, beta, Karyopherin beta Subunit, Karyopherins, beta, nuclear protein, p92
