| asynclitism |
a position of the fetal head, wherein the head is slightly cocked to one side. In asynclitism, the midline of the fetal head is not in the midline of the maternal pelvis. Asynclitism may help a large fetal head negotiate the curves of the maternal pelvis more easily. However, sometimes it is a sign that the head is trapped and unable to move or descend further.
