| ankyrins | A family of membrane-associated proteins responsible for the attachment of the cytoskeleton. Erythrocyte-related isoforms of ankyrin attach the spectrin cytoskeleton to a transmembrane protein (band 3 protein) in the erythrocyte plasma membrane. Brain-related isoforms of ankyrin also exist.
